Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Iceland

Anton Vsevolodovich Vasiliev, born in 1954. Graduated from the Moscow State Institute for International Relations (MGIMO) in 1976. Has command of Chinese, English and French languages.

Worked in Trade Mission of the USSRin China(1979-1979) and USSR Academy of Sciences (1979-1982) where he got Ph.D. (Economics).

Entered diplomatic service in 1982. Worked at the Embassy of the USSRin the People’s Republic of China(1982-1989). 1989-1993 – work at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (cooperation with Chinaand issues of disarmament). Minister-Counsellor at the Embassy of the Russian Federationin the People’s Republic of China(1993-1996). Head of the Russian delegation in the joint commission on adherence and inspections of START Treaty (1996-2002). Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federationto the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva, Switzerland(2002-2008). Ambassador at Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation– issues of international Arctic cooperation, Russia’s senior official in the Arctic Council (2008-2014).

Appointed as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federationto the Republicof Icelandby Decree of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin ¹125 of March 6, 2014.

Has diplomatic rank of Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary, First Class.

Married. Has a grown-up son.
