Ambassador A.V.Vasiliev took part in the presentation of the Icelandic book «Great Patriotic War and Maria Mitrofanova» by J.Gislason
On November 17, 2017 Russian Ambassador in Iceland A.V.Vasiliev made address during the presentation of the Icelandic book «Great Patriotic War and Maria Mitrofanova» (Föðurlandsstríðið mikla og Maria Mitrofanova), written by Icelandic policeman, individual researcher amateur-historian, Jökull Gíslason. At the author’s request Ambassador A.V.Vasiliev wrote foreword to the book.
The book is devoted to the biography of Maria Mitrofanova in a wider historical context of the Great Patriotic War. M.Mitrofanova is the only veteran of the Great Patriotic War living in Iceland, during the war – radio operator at headquarters of the 1st Belorussian Front.
The event was arranged with the support of the Icelandic Society for Cultural Relations with Russia ("Menningartengsl Íslands og Rússlands") – “MIR”. Many Icelanders and representatives of the Russian-speaking community visited the presentation.
